Message from the Athletic Director - September 2014

Well, it’s that time again! Another year of Wildcats Athletics is upon us. Student-athletes and coaches alike have been working hard organizing the seasons ahead. Our golf teams look to be full for both junior and senior boys and the interest in girls’ golf is starting to take off with two athletes interested. Senior volleyball has started with both our boys and girls teams having their first practices over the past week. Although it does not look like there is enough interest in Jr. boys volleyball, the girls will begin practice this week with the first session taking place Monday, September 8 at 3:30-5:00.

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce our Wildcat Wall of Support. Over the summer, I approached community businesses and organizations about donating to a three-tier fundraising initiative for our Physical Education department which will be used to purchase new PE equipment. The support from our community has been overwhelming with 11 businesses/organizations raising over $2000 in support of our Physical Education program. In addition to this amount, the Oilmen’s Organization have committed to a one-time donation of $3000. I express many thanks to all of these organizations/businesses for the tremendous support of this initiative so far. Keep an eye on the school gym in the near future as advertising signs will be in place marking our community’s support. If anyone has any questions regarding the Wildcat Wall of Support or would like to donate, please contact me at the school.

And finally, over the next couple of weeks, with support of administration, we will be implementing a mandatory “Wildcats Athletics” t-shirt as part of your student’s physical education gym change. Reasons for implementation include hygiene and body image. Furthermore, as our dress code dictates, students will refrain from wearing shirts that are too revealing. By implementing the t-shirt, not only will this set a precedence of what is expected in class, but it will also be a way to brand our school. All students from grades 7-10 will be expected to purchase a t-shirt for $10.00 and it can be used during Wildcat Days or other out-of-school activities such as Leadership Conferences, etc.

It has been an exciting start to the school year, and a lot of good things are in place for our student-athletes to succeed both in class and in our athletics program.
