We offer a variety of curricular programming through regular core instruction, as well as through videoconferencing within Buffalo Trail Public Schools (BTPS). In addition to core classes, we also offer daily physical activity and have tremendous resources for our art program and CTS such as industrial arts and home economics. Also, in conjunction with BTPS and Lakeland College, students are encouraged to participate in off-campus dual credit options and the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP).
HPS also offers a variety of extra-curricular programming such as athletics, leadership, students' union and youth club. The Wildcat Athletics program offers golf, cross country running, volleyball, basketball, curling, badminton and track and field to both junior and senior high students. We also offer an extra-curricular archery program through the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). This specific program is open to all students in our school. Our leadership program and students' union contributes positively to our school community and strives to build a safe, caring and welcoming school.
At HPS, we currently have 10 full-time teaching staff, an administrative assistant, 4 instructional assistants and 2 custodians.
Within the village itself, we offer a general store and postal service, as well as recreational facilities such as the Hughenden golf course, the Hughenden arena and bowling alley. A short commute to the villages of Czar and Amisk offer other recreational activities such as curling in the winter and watersports in the summer at Shorncliffe Lake (Czar). For optimal amenities, the Town of Wainwright is a short 30 minute drive away.

At HPS, we strive to develop a culture of mutual respect among students and staff and it is up to each individual to understand and adhere to classroom and school expectations. As a school, we believe very strongly that the administration, teachers, support staff, parents and students are a team. As members of the team, parents and students need to help to achieve the collective goal of optimal learning. As parents and students we ask that you commit to the following:
- Ensure that your child arrives at school and is properly nourished, rested and ready to learn.
- Strive to have your child attend school each and every school day.
- Set aside reading time each school night.
- Monitor homework to see that it is complete.
- Communicate with your child’s teacher should you feel there is an area of concern.
- Attend, as requested, all scheduled parent/teacher conferences.
